The PNW Exotics’ Greenhouse is a small outdoor space built mostly from aluminum frame and polycarbonate panels. The ground is covered with a mixture of limestone and granite rocks. A 70% shade cloth is applied to the roof during the summer months.
Heating and Lighting
During the winter months, heating is supplemented through a portable ceramic heater. Additionally, during this time, T5 fluorescent tubes are the main source of light, as well as a few LED fixtures.
Humidity and Water
Throughout the year, rainwater is collected in 50 gallon barrels to store and use for watering/repotting. A misting system runs through the top of the greenhouse and is programmed to turn on periodically to keep relative humidity above 70%.
The majority of the plants sit on tables or shelves, but a few plants are hung from supports along the ceiling. Seedlings are started in trays with covers to help keep temperatures and humidity at constant levels.
